Unmasked
Project Description
UNMASKED is a fine art portrait series exploring the hidden identities people create to survive.
Behind every smile, every social interaction, and every carefully constructed version of ourselves lies a story that is often unseen. For many people, masking becomes a form of protection—a way to navigate expectations, avoid judgment, conceal pain, or simply belong.
This series examines the space between who we are and who we feel we need to be.
Through symbolic portraiture, cinematic storytelling, and emotional vulnerability, UNMASKED explores themes of identity, autism masking, trauma, motherhood, survival, perfectionism, and the quiet exhaustion that comes from constantly performing for the world. Each image represents a different layer of the masks we wear and the emotional cost of carrying them.
The work invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of hiding, adapting, and performing, while challenging societal expectations that often reward appearance over authenticity.
At its core, UNMASKED is not about weakness or brokenness. It is about resilience. It is about the courage required to be seen as we truly are.
This project seeks to create a connection through honesty, giving visual form to emotions that are often difficult to explain but universally understood.
Artist Statement
As an autistic photographer, I have spent much of my life observing the world from a different perspective. I understand what it means to adapt, to perform, and to navigate spaces where authenticity can feel risky. Through UNMASKED, I aim to transform those experiences into visual narratives that encourage empathy, understanding, and self-reflection.
This series is an invitation to look beyond the surface and recognise the humanity that exists beneath every mask.

THE WEIGHT SHE CARRIES
Project Description
The Weight She Carries is a conceptual fine art portrait series exploring the invisible burdens women carry every day.
From motherhood and caregiving to emotional labour, expectations, grief, responsibility, and resilience, much of a woman's work remains unseen. Society often celebrates strength while overlooking the cost of constantly carrying the needs, emotions, and well-being of others.
This series transforms those invisible burdens into physical form.
Through symbolic imagery, cinematic portraiture, and visual storytelling, The Weight She Carries gives shape to the responsibilities women are expected to bear—often silently. Laundry becomes a train too heavy to lift. Clocks become the pressure of time. Flowers represent beauty maintained despite exhaustion. Household objects, children's belongings, paperwork, and emotional symbols become visual metaphors for the countless demands placed upon women.
Each image explores a different aspect of modern womanhood: the expectation to nurture, to provide, to perform, to endure, and to continue carrying more than anyone can see.
While the work acknowledges exhaustion and sacrifice, it is ultimately a story of resilience. It honours the quiet strength of women who continue to show up for others while carrying burdens that are rarely recognised.
The series invites viewers to reflect on the invisible loads carried not only by mothers, carers, and women, but by anyone who has ever felt responsible for holding everything together.
At its heart, The Weight She Carries is a tribute to the strength that often goes unnoticed and the stories that are carried in silence.
Artist Statement
Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by extraordinary women whose strength was often mistaken for the absence of struggle.
As a mother, survivor, business owner, and creative, I understand the pressure of carrying multiple roles while maintaining the appearance that everything is under control. Society frequently praises women for their ability to cope, adapt, and endure, yet rarely asks what that endurance costs.
Through The Weight She Carries, I aim to make the invisible visible.
Using symbolic portraiture and visual metaphors, this series explores the emotional, physical, and psychological loads women carry throughout their lives. It is both a celebration of resilience and a reflection on the expectations placed upon women to remain strong, even when the weight becomes overwhelming.
My hope is that viewers will see parts of their own story within these images and feel recognised, understood, and valued.

Reflections of Her
This series is created to capture the raw, unfiltered emotions of women and girls of all ages. It’s a visual exploration of how, for generations, society has taught women to wear masks — hiding their truths, their pain, their joy, and their strength.
Through powerful black and white portraits and intimate moments of reflection in the mirror, I aim to work closely with each volunteer to reveal the emotions that surface when a woman truly sees herself. This project is about reclaiming those moments, embracing vulnerability, and celebrating every unspoken story.
